Image Conversion Guide
Use these rules of thumb to choose stable output settings and avoid unnecessary quality loss.
Choose output by purpose
Pick formats based on where the image will be used instead of converting everything to one default.
- Use WebP for modern web pages when size matters most.
- Use PNG when sharp transparency is required.
- Use GIF for lightweight animation loops, BMP for compatibility workflows, ICO for favicons, and TIFF for print-friendly pipelines.
Control size without over-editing
The max-dimension setting scales large images down while preserving aspect ratio and leaving small images untouched.
- Set a dimension cap when you need upload-friendly assets.
- Keep the cap high for print or archival outputs.
- Start around 2048 for social and content-management uploads.
Processing and privacy
Your conversion runs in a single workflow with clear guidance for any format-specific requirements.
- All supported conversions run locally in your browser in this version.
- Animated GIF input keeps animation timing when exporting back to GIF.
- If conversion fails, adjust format, size, or source image and try again.
FAQ
Does this tool upload my image by default?
No. Current supported conversions run directly in this tool. If a format ever requires upload processing, you will see a warning before you convert.
Why does output quality seem ignored sometimes?
Quality settings only affect lossy formats like JPEG and WebP. PNG, GIF, BMP, ICO, and TIFF outputs do not use that slider.
Will animated GIFs stay animated?
Yes when you export to GIF. If you choose a non-GIF output format, the result is a single static frame in this version.
Can I convert very large images?
Yes, but large files can still be resource-intensive. Lower the max dimension and try again if conversion fails.
What should I use for website icons?
Use ICO output for favicon workflows. You can upload a PNG source and export an ICO file in one pass.
Is this a full image editor?
No. This tool focuses on conversion and optimization controls, not full editing features like filters, cropping, or annotations.
